Both the woman, who was the driver of a black convertible Vauxhall, and the man, who was driving a silver Kia, suffered back and neck problems. They were taken to Walsall Manor Hospital.

There were no passengers in either cars and nobody else was involved.

Police, ambulance and firefighters attended the scene.

The road was closed while the drivers were freed and given initial treatment.

Watch Commander Tim Middleton, of Bloxwich Fire Station, said: "We were called to the scene of a two-car road traffic collision.

"We had three fire engines in attendance with both drivers complaining of back and neck injuries.

"We cut the female driver free from her black convertible and helped the man out of his car.

"Both were seen by paramedics and taken to Walsall Manor Hospital for further treatment."
