Arsonists target Willenhall skip packed with five tons of rubbish
An arson attack on a large skip packed with five tons of rubbish sparked a blaze that threatened to engulf a shop and a parked vehicle powered by liquified petroleum gas.
The blaze in Cheapside, Willenhall was spotted by a passer by and officer at the nearby police station around 2.40am yesterday.
The skip had been filled during the renovation of a shop in area and firefighters battled for 40 minutes to put out the fire.
Watch Commander Andy Morgan from Willenhall fire station said: "It was well alight when we got there. If we had been much later it could have spread to a shop that was close by. If the parked LPG vehicle had gone as well it would have been like a bomb going off."
Mr Morgan continued: "This is not the first incident of this kind we have had in this area and I would encourage local people to be extra vigilant."
