Woman sexually assaulted after followed home in Willenhall
A woman was sexually assaulted in Willenhall after she was followed home following a night out.
The 39-year-old victim left a Walsall nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning when two men travelling as passengers in a black cab pulled up alongside her and offered her a lift home.
The men were dropped off near to Cavendish Road and the woman left the taxi separately to walk the rest of her way home.
It is believed the woman was then followed along Bentley Lane by one of the passengers from the taxi who then 'seriously' sexually assaulted her, say police.
The suspect is a slim white man with short dark hair and protruding ears. It is believed he spoke with an eastern European accent.
Detectives investigating the attack are now appealing for the taxi driver and anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
Det Sgt Nicola Austin, from Walsall's public protection unit, said: "I would appeal to the driver of the black cab who picked this woman up from Walsall town centre at around 3.45am on Sunday, May 25, to come forward.
"He is a witness who we urgently need to trace and speak to and he may have vital information in determining events leading up to this incident.
"I would also appeal to anyone travelling out and about at this time in the morning and in the vicinity of Cavendish Rd and Bentley Lane who may have seen a lone woman walking at this time or being followed by this man.
"Whilst I understand that this is a very serious attack and no doubt the community will be concerned about what has happened, I should stress that such incidents are extremely rare in Walsall. Officers will continue to patrol the area to provide continued reassurance and support to the local community and my officers will be doing everything within their power to catch the person responsible."
Anyone with any information should call Det Sergeant Nicky Austin or Walsall public protection unit on 101.
