New £7.5m homes plan for Stafford

More than 60 new apartments will be built as part of multi-million pound regeneration plans.

The £7.5m scheme to replace outdated flats in Stafford has been put forward by Stafford and Rural Homes.

Work is due to begin next year and residents will be moved to other properties while the redevelopment is carried out.

Artists impressions of the planned 62-apartment development on Hesketh Road have been released.

The aim is to provide affordable homes and the housing association say it will help provide a better quality of life.

The existing 54 flats which have come to the end of their useable lifespan and are in need of renewal.

Karen Armitage, chief executive of Stafford and Rural Homes, said: "We want our customers to be proud of where they live and this development is part of a wider £40million SARH programme to build 300 new homes and regenerate key neighbourhoods in Staffordshire.

"By investing millions of pounds in the local community at Hesketh Road, we are creating a development that will be state-of-the-art, pleasant and secure the long term future of the area."

The project is due to start in September 2015 and a comprehensive support package has been offered to customers who will be moving to suitable alternative homes.

It is anticipated the redevelopment project will create jobs related to the construction work, new training opportunities and see the use of suppliers in the area.

Meanwhile plans have been submitted to build 41 new homes in Baswich on land off Baswich Lane, Cornwall Drive and Truro Way.

The proposals have been sent in to Stafford Borough Council and a decision date has been set for July 25.
