Hundreds of friends and family members gathered at the Liberal Club in Birchills to pay their respects to 26-year-old Chris Mills, who got into difficulty in the water earlier this month.

Close friend Tina Wood organised the fundraiser alongside Chris' cousin Donna Hurd. In total £3,615 was raised with Mr Mills's family left overwhelmed.

Holding back the tears, his mother Denis Sargent said: "I want a say a massive thankyou to every single person. It has been a tremendous effort. As a family we are so grateful to the community for their support at this very difficult time.
