A 22-year-old man was violently attacked in Bilston Lane, near to the Keyway roundabout, after the attackers followed him from McDonald's on Shepwell Green for around 15 minutes.

The assault was stopped, however, when an unknown driver beeped their horn as they were going past. As they did so, the men ran away towards Rose Hill and detectives are now appealing for that potentially crucial witness to contact them.

The victim, who determinedly clung onto his mobile phone throughout the ordeal, remembers other people being around as the attack was happening at around 8.45pm.

Detective Sergeant Craig Newey said: "Thankfully the young man wasn't badly hurt but he spent a number of hours in hospital and is understandably very shaken.

"We really need to speak to anyone who saw the assault. In particular I'm very keen to hear from driver who sounded their horn and stopped this from potentially becoming a much more serious matter."

The attack took place on Sunday, April 6.
