Elderly man rescued from Dudley house fire

An elderly man has been rescued by firefighters this afternoon after a fire broke out in a kitchen in Dudley.

Crews from Brierley Hill were called to a house in Blackacre Road at around 12.40pm. The fire was started by food left unattended on the hob.

Firefighters entered the house wearing breathing apparatus and led the elderly man to safety. He suffered smoke inhalation and has been taken to Russells Hall Hospital as a precaution A 20-year-old man and his young daughter had been able to get out of the house before the crews arrived.
