Family DIY store opens in Wolverhampton
A new family-run hardware store has opened up in Wolverhampton.
The owners of Lea Road Hardware, in Penn Fields, say they have launched their new venture because the community was crying out for a DIY store following the closure of three others in the area.
The shop was opened by local councillor and cabinet member for leisure and communities Councillor Elias Mattu.
It will be run by brothers Mohammed Riaz and Ghulam Abbas.
Mr Riaz, aged 39, said: "Our family have lived round here for about 30 years now and people have been saying that there is a need for a shop where they pick up and bits and bobs.
"If you need to fix something at the moment then you have to go to B&Q or Wickes in the city centre.
"So we thought we'd open up a store that would meet the needs of the local community."
He said the shop would be a family-run business.
"My brother is the proprietor," he said. "And I will be working there, too, along with my nephews and son, so it will be family-run. There are a few shops next to us, a grocer's and a Chinese takeaway, so, hopefully, people will be able to stay in this community now instead of having to make the trip into the city centre.
