Off-road motocross track move sparks anger

A motocross track is set to be built on fields despite an outcry from neighbours who fear it will blight their lives with noise and traffic.

The proposals would see an all-ages practise facility for off-road motorbikes built on land at Ashes Covert off Seighford Lane, near Junction 14 of the M6.

But locals have united against the development, saying it will leave the area clogged with traffic and the loud noise will leave families unable to open their windows.

Nearly 100 people have signed a petition against the plans, while 75 letters of objection have been sent to the council.

Their pleas are set to be rejected, though, when planning chiefs meet tomorrow with the development being earmarked for approval. A maximum of 60 bikes will use the track.

There would be 80 parking spaces built on the site – and campaigners say the local roads cannot cope with that level of traffic.

Stafford borough councillor Ray Sutherland called in the application to be scrutinised.

He said: "I have been contacted by a number of residents who are very concerned about noise and traffic. Local villages such as Doxey are already used as rat runs and this will make the problem even worse. I have been to a motocross site before and it was very, very noisy."

The scheme is being opposed by Seighford and Creswell parish councils, who have raised concerns about traffic and noise levels. A total of 75 letters of objection have been received, plus two petitions . But the council has also received 137 letters supporting the scheme.
