Chance to have say over new Stafford Aldi store
A public exhibition is being held tomorrow to give residents the chance to examine details of plans by supermarket chain Aldi to open a new neighbourhood food store in Stafford.
The discount food retailer is aiming to build on a site in Queensville, Stafford, which is currently occupied by Freedom Caravans, a Gulf petrol station and a Bargain Booze outlet.
Local residents – some of whom have raised concerns about increased traffic – are being invited to meet the Aldi team and find out more about the proposals tomorrow afternoon, between 3pm and 7pm, at the Wildwood Community Centre, Wildwood, Stafford.
The firm has not yet put in a planning application to Stafford Borough Council and is holding the exhibition to gauge local reaction to the proposal. Aldi estimates that the new store would create up to 30 full-time and part-time jobs in a modern 'custom-built' store with a 'contemporary' design.
An Aldi spokesperson said: "We believe the Freedom Caravans site in Queensville is an excellent opportunity to offer the local community an improved choice when completing their shopping by providing a new neighbourhood food store, located in an area of Stafford where there is currently a limited offering for residents."
The supermarket has sent a community newsletter with a feedback card to more than 3,900 households around the Queensville area to 'better understand local views'. Details are also available on 0800 298 7040.
But Forebridge ward councillor Chris Baron said she had concerns about a store adding to traffic problems on the busy A34.
