Around 80 campaigners took part in a rally in Walsall town centre on Saturday to show their support.

It comes as Centro looks to make £14 million worth of savings, which includes proposals to reduce funding to Ring and Ride. Campaigners are now hoping to get 75,000 names on the petition by the time the consultation closes on January 29.

More than 80 people took to the streets to protest against proposed cuts to transport services for the elderly – with a petition reaching more than 50,000 signatures.

Jan Bethel, aged 69, of Bloxwich, has had rheumatoid arthritis since 1999 and said the loss of Ring and Ride would leave many people isolated.

The great grandmother-of-two from Clarendon Street said: "If you're disabled it can be very challenging getting on and off buses."

Event organiser Councillor Doug James said: "Our petition opposing the cuts had 53,000 signatures when we presented it to Centro."
