New Square in West Bromwich saw more than 107,000 visitors for its first Christmas, with almost 22,000 people on its busiest day of December 21.

On its busiest day the centre, which opened in July 2013, also welcomed its two millionth customer.

Footfall was further boosted by the arrival of two more major fashion retailers into the centre, H&M on December 19 and Blue INC on December 21.

As well as hitting the shops, visitors also made use of the centre's restaurants and entertainment venues, including the Odeon cinema, in the week before Christmas, while on Christmas Eve saw 18,500 making a visit for last minute gifts.

On Boxing Day, 19,300 people visited with and 500 people queuing before 9am for the Next sale.

Sales saw the earliest bargain hunters queuing from 2am.

Steve Burr, Centre Manager at New Square said: "As anticipated, New Square has had a successful first Christmas with the centre seeing one of its busiest days of the year for footfall.

"Anecdotally, retailers have also reported strong sales figures. We have some great sales now running with anything from 30 per cent to 70 per cent off across our retail offer.

"We are sure will continue to boost our footfall figures.

"I look forward to welcoming more new retailers to New Square's line up in 2014."

The £200 million New Square development is co-anchored by Tesco Extra and Primark and also includes popular high street stores such as Next, Sports Direct, JD Sports and outfit, as well as an Odeon cinema.

It also includes a Greggs, Harvester, Real China, Nandos and Prezzo, and an Odeon Cinema.
