Gran speaks out over teen's 'freak accident'
A distraught grandmother has spoken of the 'freak accident' that saw her teenage granddaughter thrown into the air after being hit by a motorist.
Schoolgirl Kirsty Lloyd suffered a fractured skull after being knocked off her bike in the collision in Walsall. The 15-year-old was flown to hospital by air ambulance. She remains in the high dependency unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
Her grandmother Denise Deakin voiced the family's distress and relief following the collision in Bloxwich. She said the 'lovely and mild-mannered' youngster had a lucky escape.

Despite her injuries, relatives said the outcome could have been much worse.
Mrs Deakin, aged 61, said: "I have been to see her and she is very lucky. Someone was definitely looking after her.
"We are all shook up, it has been very traumatic. She is lovely, she is very mild mannered and courteous to everyone. She can't remember anything."
The collision occurred in Walker Road in Bloxwich at around 2.45pm on Saturday afternoon. A stretch of the road was closed off for a number of hours as police and paramedics were called to the scene.
The victim also suffered a fractured cheekbone and a deep cut to her leg but she regained consciousness and is recovering in hospital.
Mrs Deakin said the family attached no blame to the driver of the car involved.
"Apparently she bounced off the car, hit the windscreen and she was thrown into the air," said Mrs Deakin.
"I felt so sorry for the woman who hit Kirsty, she was distraught. There is no blame it was just a freak accident."
The accident was one of a series of crashes around the West Midlands over the weekend.
