The man, who was of Middle Eastern appearance and thought to have been aged around 40, was on foot when he was killed on the northbound carriageway of the M42 between junctions two for Alvechurch and three for Redditch at around 10.15pm on December 16.

A picture of the man, who had brown eyes, a black goatee beard and short, black receding hair, has now been issued in the hope someone could recognise him. He was wearing black jeans with a black leather belt and silver coloured Thomas Burberry buckle.

Under his jeans was a pair of black tracksuit bottoms. He was also wearing a navy blue, heavyweight denim jacket, a dark coloured jumper with a white vest underneath, and black Puma slip-on trainers. Two distinctive Yale keys on a pink key fob were found on the body.

Inspector Sion Hathaway, from West Mercia Police, said: "He was someone's son, brother or father and it's extremely sad to think that just a day before Christmas his family is totally unaware of this tragedy. To date we have been unable to trace anyone who knew him."

Anyone with information should call police officers at the Central Motorway Police Group on 0121 626 1289, quoting the incident reference 2380 of 16/12/13.
