Luxury cinema planned in £50m Birmingham Mailbox revamp

A luxury cinema will open at The Mailbox in Birmingham as part of a wider £50 million revamp of the complex, it was announced today.

Everyman Cinemas will open a three-screen, 12,000 sq ft cinema towards the end of 2014.

The company currently operate 10 cinemas across London, the South East and Leeds, but The Mailbox will be its first in the Midlands. It will feature a fully licensed bar with fine wines, champagnes, beers and cocktails and food.

"The Mailbox and its customer base present the perfect opportunity for us to launch our concept in the Midlands."

Work started in the summer to prepare for a £50 million revamp of The Mailbox which will see a new roof, improved public areas and a facelift for the shops carried out before the centre is relaunched in 2015. As part of the centre's revamp, its Harvey Nichols store will double in size to 45,000 sq ft. Up to 500 jobs could be created, with top new retail chains moving in.

The redevelopment of The Mailbox has seen pre-let agreements signed with leading fashion brands Jaeger, Gieves & Hawkes, L.K. Bennett and Daniel Footwear.
