The move will see 11 people made redundant at the Dudley Street store, among 452 employees nationwide as 72 stores are closed over the coming weeks.

Details of the closures were released by administrators at Moorfields Corporate Recovery, who were appointed last week as the chain went into administration for the second time this year.

Joint administrators Simon Thomas and Nick O'Reilly said: "The decision to close some stores has not been taken lightly, however the remaining stores will be open and we are continuing to market the business for sale as a going concern.

"Currently we are offering attractive discounts which are generating additional sales.

"We want to be as open and transparent as possible throughout this process and will hopefully be in a position, within the next seven days, to provide staff and customers with another update very shortly," he added.

The closures represent about a quarter of Blockbuster's 264 outlets and 2,000-strong workforce.

Branches remain open in Wolverhampton's Penn Road, in Willenhall, Cannock, Kidderminster and in Stourbridge.
