Regulars in shock after Cannock and Rugeley pubs close
Two popular town centre bars have closed suddenly after the company that owns them went into administration.
Twenty-four jobs in total have been lost after the Courtyard in Cannock and the Glass Works in Rugeley both shut.
Fourteen staff worked at the Glass Works in Brewery Street and around 10 at the Courtyard in High Green – which celebrated its first anniversary exactly a week ago.
Both venues are owned by Bramwell Pubs and Bars Limited, which has gone into administration. Signs have gone up in the windows of both bars to let customers know about the closures.
Shocked regulars have taken to social networking sites after hearing the news.
Steph Hammond wrote on the Courtyard's Facebook page: "Such a shame, we will have nothing soon."
Danielle Harry wrote: "Still in shock!" and Michael Hinks wrote: "Hope to see some of the staff working at whatever it opens as next!"
A statement posted on Glass Works' official Facebook page stated: "We would like to take the opportunity to thank every customer that has made the place one of the best places to work over the last seven years. And hope we all see you from behind a different beer pump in the near future."
London-based firm Zolfo Cooper has been appointed as the joint administrator for Bramwell.
Peter Saville, a partner at the firm, said: "We will continue to trade the business while exploring all possible options for its future, including a sale of the business, and would like to thank the staff for their continued support and professionalism during this process."
Administrators were appointed after Bramwell Pubs and Bars Limited experienced cash flow problems. Bosses blamed the 'challenging economic environment'.
