Kevin Keegan backs Joe Hart for England at Brierley Hill fundraiser
Kevin Keegan has backed Roy Hodgson to stick with Joe Hart as England's number one goalkeeper.
National boss Hodgson's backing for the under-fire Manchester City goalkeeper came as he announced the squad for upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland.
Former City manager, and Newcastle and Liverpool icon Keegan however said Hodgson had made the right call, as he visited the Black Country for a charity fundraiser last night.
"If he had thrown one in for England, it would be different, but people should not confuse form for your club and for your country.
"I still think, looking at the other two goalkeepers in the squad, that Hart is England's number one. He has made mistakes this season and he hasn't started off great.
"There would be a lot bigger headlines though if Hodgson had left him out."
Keegan also said the inclusion of Everton's Ross Barkley was an encouraging sign for the National side's future prospects.
He added: "He is the future. Hodgson will be thinking this could be the man to solve a few problems in the midfield. He has got something about him."
The Level Street hotel hosted an evening with Kevin Keegan last night to raise money for Compton Hospice, which helps people with terminal illnesses.
Two-time European Footballer of the Year award winner Keegan said he was only too happy to help.
He added: "This is a great cause. In these times a lot of charities are seeing their money cut back. They have got to work hard. For families hospices like this are an unbelievable help in hard times.
"You just can't a price on them."
