George Bryan OBE died at the age of 92 at his home on the grounds of the Staffordshire theme park.

Great grandfather Mr Bryan, who set up the park in 1950, initially bought the 80 acres of land for Drayton Manor for just £12,000 in 1949.

He and his wife Vera then spent the next six months transforming the site. In April 1950, Drayton Manor Park opened.

Today, the park continues to be run and owned by the family and has succeeded in becoming one of the UK's most popular family attractions.

Mr Bryan received his OBE in 2004 in recognition for his dedication to hospital services and contribution to tourism.
