Drunk West Bromwich man had kitchen knives, court told
A drunk man breached a restraining order by visiting his former partner's home, then armed himself with kitchen knives at his parents' house and headbutted a police officer who tried to arrest him, a court heard.
Liam Groom had been sentenced to 18 months in February, after he deliberately left two traffic cones in the middle of the M6 and hurled another at a passing car from the hard shoulder. He has now been locked up again.
Wolverhampton Crown Court heard 21-year-old Groom had been recalled on licence after he breached an old restraining order by committing criminal damage at his former partner's home in West Bromwich. He was given a fresh sentence and another restraining order was imposed.
Groom, of Whitworth Drive, West Bromwich, was released again but went on to breach his second restraining order on April 1, when he went to visit his former partner.
The court heard how police found Groom sitting in a car. When he was searched, officers found three knives and Groom headbutted a Pc before he was arrested.
Mr Ecky Tiwana, defending, said Groom had significant problems but would use use his time in a young offenders' institute to do A-levels.
Groom had pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing a bladed article, breaching a restraining order and assault. Judge Amjad Nawaz gave credit for Groom's guilty pleas before sentencing him to a total of 55 weeks. He will serve half of that before being released on licence.
