Man fighting for life after being run over near Wombourne
A man is in a life-threatening condition after being run over in Smestow, near Wombourne.
The man, who is believed to be in his mid 20s, was knocked down at around 1.30am this morning and had to be taken to hospital for emergency surgery.
Staffordshire Police said it is believed he was getting out of a taxi when he was hit by a red Toyota Yaris, on Smestow Road near to the junction with Chapel Lane.
His injuries are life-threatening, and he was taken to the major trauma unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: "Crews arrived to find a man and a car that had been in collision.
"The man suffered multiple serious injuries and received emergency treatment at the scene before being transferred by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Major Trauma Unit for further treatment. The doctor travelled with the patient in the ambulance continuing with treatment en route."
Staffordshire Police crash investigators were called to the scene, and the road will remain closed this morning until their inquiries have been completed.
