The man has been named locally as Imran Rashid. He has been described by friends as 'friendly and hard working'.

It is believed the victim, who was in his 30s, worked as a taxi operative at a firm in Willenhall and was a father.

Floral tributes have been laid at the scene in Wednesbury Road, Pleck, close to where his Toyota Avensis left the road before hitting metal fencing and going down an embankment.

A friend who was laying flowers at the scene but did not wish to be named said Mr Rashid had grown up in the area.

"He was very friendly and was well-known within the community. He was very hard working. It's so sad. I send my condolences to the family," he said.

The crash happened at 4.45am yesterday.
