The woman, believed to be in her 60s, is in a serious but stable condition after the accident outside Sandwell Hospital in West Bromwich. She suffered a fractured hip and ankle, a suspected broken pelvis and a pain in her chest and abdomen.

Police closed All Saints Way at its junction with Parsonage Street following the accident, and no-one else was injured in the crash, which happened at around 7pm on Saturday night.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said an ambulance was at the scene in less than a minute as it was just leaving Sandwell Hospital when the call came in. The woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, for further emergency treatment.

It comes just days after another woman, also in her 60s, suffered a head injury after being hit by a car near the Hargate Arms pub on Thursday on the same road.
