Kevin McLaughlin, aged 41, of The Lawn, Poplar Way, Stafford, was arrested after he drove his Peugeot 306 into a 56-seater coach which was at a standstill on Nelson Way, Rising Brook.

Following the accident, which took place at 9.40pm on May 4, McLauglin was found to be nearly three-and-a-half times the legal drink drive limit.

Ignition

Prosecutor Mr John Peel told Cannock Magistrates Court: "The incident took place at 21.40 on May 4 when the witness was stationary with the vehicle, namely a coach. The Peugeot collided with the rear offside of the coach, then reversed and drove off, turning into Border Way."He said witnesses ran after the car. One took the ignition key and another blocked him in.

He was then arrested and taken to the station where the lower of the two samples was 126 milligrams of alcohol. The legal limit is 35, so that means he was nearly three-and-a-half times the legal limit.

At court McLaughlin pleaded guilty to one count of drink driving and another of failing to stop after an accident. He was banned from driving for 32 months and sentenced to a 12-month community order and a 12-month supervision order.
