On one of the hottest days of the year so far, visitors flocked to the Rushall May Fair to enjoy the sights and sounds of the popular annual spectacular.

In its 13th year, organisers have hailed this year's sun-soaked event as one of the most successful – and hottest – on record, and thanked visitors for turning up.

Mike Blakemore, from the May Fair committee, said it was 'fantastic'.

"We have just had a wonderful day and it's fantastic that so many people turned up and the sun was shining. It is probably the best day we have had so far and it was just glorious," he said.

May Queen Shannon Bourne, aged 10, was crowned on the day, along with May Princess Alyssa Law, aged nine.

The pair were picked randomly from youngsters keen to fulfil the roles and ready to pick up their crowns.

Activities on the day included Zumba, morris and maypole dancing, an army and airforce cadets display and also a classic cars display.

Mr Blakemore added: "It just all went so well.

"We have raised money for some local charities, along with the guide dogs and air ambulance. We aren't sure how much it is yet but we shall find out in a few days time," he said.

Visitors turned out in their droves to events throughout the West Midlands to celebrate the May Day bank holiday as the temperature soared.
