Pinetrees Cattery in Huntington, Cannock, was ravaged by a blaze in January following an electrical fault in one of the pens.

The fire destroyed all but 10 enclosures and owner Lynn Durnall was unable to reopen until weeks later.

Mrs Durnall, who has run the cattery in Stafford Road for almost 13 years, applied to South Staffordshire Council to rebuild and extend.

The council's regulatory committee gave the plans the green light last night. Councillor Jeff Ashley, who represents Huntington and Hatherton, said: "This is a most welcome application.

What happened earlier this year was devastating."

The new proposals include 46 pens and self-contained heated sleeping quarters.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue have advised on alarms and dividers to prevent the risk of any fire spreading.
