Naked Rambler case is dropped
The Naked Rambler, who was charged after striding through Staffordshire in the nude, has had the case against him dropped.
Stephen Gough was due to appear at Cannock Magistrates this week for a trial after he walked along the towpath in the village of Huddlestone, near Fradley.
The 53-year-old had pleaded not guilty to using threatening words or behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress last November. However the case has now been dropped.
CPS spokesman Vinny Bolina said: "Having reviewed all of the evidence made available to us, a decision was made to drop the charges on the basis that there was insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction."
He has spent six years in prisons for refusing to put his clothes on and has twice walked from Land's End to John O'Groats wearing only boots, socks and a rucksack.
