Brighter lights in £250,000 Walsall scheme
Hundreds of street lights in Walsall will be replaced next month in a £250,000 scheme.
Streets in Leamore and parts of Bloxwich will see the work done in March and the switch-on in April.
It comes after more than 590 old-style sodium orange lights in Bloxwich were replaced with new LED lights last March. They are said to use less electricity and give out a better light.
The lights were welcomed by residents, prompting council chiefs to now roll them out in more than 100 other streets in Leamore and remaining parts of Bloxwich.
Roads chief Councillor Tom Ansell said: "Obviously, we would like all residential areas of the borough to benefit but it is a gradual process. We have to identify what funding is available to expand the scheme."
Kevin Grigg, Amey operations manager, said: "The LED technology means that the light they give out is clearer and enables people to see colours more clearly."
