Former Cannock music shop has £290k price tag
A former music shop which closed almost 12 months ago is to be auctioned with a price tag of £290,000.
Musically Yours, Walsall Road, Cannock, closed last year – a victim of the recession. It had been trading for almost 30 years.
After the shop closed the first floor was still used for music lessons but teachers are now searching for new bases to hold their sessions.
A parent, who did not want to be named, said there was a scramble to find new venues for keyboards, piano and guitar lessons.
She said: "The tutors were only given around four weeks to find a new base. It was a worry as there were a lot of plans up in the air. People were concerned about what was going to happen.
"My children's music lessons are sorted now but it will be a shame to leave Musically Yours after so many years."
CP Bigwood has stated that a prospective tenant is interested in leasing the space above the shop from the new owner.
The popular shop closed in May last year. Hundreds queued to bag a bargain when the store sold off its old stock for rock-bottom prices.
The empty unit is going under the hammer with CP Bigwood on February 28 at Aston Villa FC's home ground Villa Park.
In the catalogue, the firm states: "A detached commercial premises, formerly used as a double fronted music shop, with extension to the rear containing a lift and teaching rooms to the first floor.
"Prospective purchasers should note, should they require to let the studio rooms on the first floor, a tenant has expressed an interest in leasing them."
Upstairs there are five teaching rooms, all soundproofed. The guide price for the former music shop is £290,000.
Musically Yours had been trading for 28 years before it shut last year, with bosses blaming the recession for a decline in trade.
A clearance sale of its stock took place with up to 75 per cent off all retail prices in September.
They included guitars, ukules, violins, drums, cymbals and other percussion instruments.
Amplifiers, microphones, speakers, portable pianos, keyboards and accordions were also sold at a cut price.
Around 400 people queued from early in the morning for the clearance sale.
The queue at Musically Yours stretched all along Walsall Road to the traffic lights as bargain hunters were attracted by the offer of up to 75 per cent off instruments and equipment.
