And, despite the Christmas and New Year festivities, crime in the town centre in December was the third lowest figure of the financial year so far – a total of 170 reported incidents.

Of those, 38 were violent crimes, including grievous bodily harm and sexual assaults, 45 were incidents of anti-social behaviour. There were also 18 burglaries, 18 criminal damage and arson reports and 15 incidents of shoplifting.

In the same month, 86 crimes took place within a mile of Rugeley town centre. Of these, 31 were anti-social behaviour offences and 16 were violent crimes.

And in Hednesford in December, 98 crimes were recorded. There were 30 incidents of anti-social behaviour, 13 violent crimes, 12 vehicle crimes, 10 burglaries and 12 criminal damage and arson. Chief Inspector Ratcliffe, of Staffordshire Police, said the top priorities for the force in 2013 were reducing violent crime, alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour.

He said: "The latest figures show that so far this year crime has fallen by four per cent in Cannock Chase. This is testament to the ongoing good work by police officers, PCSOs, police staff, community safety partners, specials and other volunteers.

"Across Staffordshire, nine out of 10 victims of crime (88 per cent) and anti-social behaviour (89 per cent) said they were satisfied with the overall service they got from police. We value feedback from our communities and strive to provide a high level of service."
