Skate park in Wombourne is given green light

Wombourne is set to get its own skate park under new plans which have been unveiled. Civic leaders in the village hope the development could be built on land at Brickbridge playing fields off Brickbridge Lane.

They have come up with the plan after saying young people in the area have been asking for a facility for several years. Design work for the park is set to get under way in the next few weeks and it is hoped that if all goes to plan it could be open by the summer.

Councillor Jackie Granger said: "Children in the village have been asking for a skate park for the last few years as they currently have to go to Kinver or Wolverhampton."

The council has been given the land where it hopes to build the new skate park from South Staffordshire District Council.

A public consultation into the proposals will be held at the council offices on Gravel Hill in the village centre on March 16 between 10am and noon. People will have the opportunity to go along and look at the plans.

Those interested in helping to get the development up and running can also share their ideas for the design and fundraising at another meeting which will also be held at the council offices on February 21.

The plans come on the back to install an outdoor gym at Bratch Park in the village.

The council is currently sourcing quotes to find out how much it will cost to build the new skate park.

It has already received some support for the project from the village's United Reform Church which made a donation of £525.
