The former footballer was at the Britannia Inn Sports Bar in Wollaston yesterday to promote a fundraising tour to raise money for the actual statue, which will feature Regis as well as fellow legends Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson.

Bob Taylor, Tony 'Bomber' Brown and Cyrille Regis will begin the fundraising tour at the Britannia Inn Sports Bar on February 20, giving fans the chance to meet their heroes and exchange stories.

Sculptor Graham Ibbeson is creating the statue while Black Country businessman Jim Cadman is leading the project.

"It's a very humbling experience and I have to thank Jim Cadman and the celebration statue organisation for proposing it," said Regis. "It's quite surreal, really, but it's going out on tour and I'm looking forward to travelling with it every now and then."

Regis said the actual statue was coming on well. "I've been down to the foundry in London to see how he's doing things," he said.

"It's great to see the process and I'm looking forward to seeing it fully unveiled."
