Workers' fear on jobs at The Motorhouse in Cannock
Workers who have been laid off for 13 weeks by a used car sales firm say they are uncertain whether they will be able to return to their jobs.
Letters were handed to staff at The Motorhouse in Cannock last week explaining that a decision had been made to lay off more than 40 workers due to a downturn in business.
In the letter, HR manager Yvonne Hosie said "your continuation of service will not be affected" and workers would be contacted if there was a "significant" upturn in business.
The letter also stated that five payments of up to £23.50 would be paid to those affected.
But vehicle technicians Wayne Stocking and Dean Bannister, who both received the letters, fear that further cutbacks are on the cards and have voiced concerns that they may lose their jobs altogether.
Father-of-two Mr Stocking, aged 43, of Dorsett Road, Wednesbury, who has worked for the Watling Street firm for 15 months, said: "We were told they had used a system to score us all but we were not allowed to see how they scored us and they have laid off some of the more qualified staff. Our bonuses were stopped as well last November."
He said workers who had been laid off had set up an email account at layedoff45@yahoo.co.uk to encourage other businesses interested in taking them on to get in touch
Mr Bannister, 34, of Bentley, Walsall, who has worked for the firm for 10 months, said: "I still have to try and provide for my family. It's hard. I'm using my savings at the moment."
No-one at The Motorhouse was available for comment today.
