Updated: Man, 90, dies after being hit by skip lorry in Brierley Hill
A 90-year-old man has died after being hit by a skip lorry.
He was knocked down at the junction of Brierley Hill High Street and Level Street at around 1.30pm yesterday.
Police officers alerted to the accident by passers-by desperately tried to save the man by giving CPR.
He was taken to Russells Hall Hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the skip lorry, believed to be in his 50s, was in shock and taken to the hospital for checks.
Police closed the road for up to four hours, causing queues of traffic to build up around the town.
Workers at stores in the town reported seeing several police cars and ambulances with flashing lights at the scene before they dashed out to find out what the commotion was.
One shop worker, who asked not to be named, said: "The first we knew about the accident was hearing police cars, with their sirens going, pulling up down the road. It sounded terrible."
