Jobs hope emerges at Norton Canes factory site
A disused industrial site in Norton Canes is set to be taken over by a new business, creating jobs. Vehicle cleaning products supplier Autosmart wants to take over the old Durapipes Glynwed Plastics site.
The land in Walsall Road, which has been empty for around 12 months, would store car valeting and cleaning products and equipment. It is not yet known how many jobs will be created.
Officers at Cannock Chase District Council have recommended the plans are approved.
"The proposed development would bring a vacant industrial premises back into commercial use resulting in economic regeneration and job creation," a new report to council bosses says.
But residents facing the site have voiced concerns over the plans, fearing the new base could cause "visual intrusions".
Councillor Zaphne Stretton said: "There were some concerns about the entrance of the site but that's all been resolved. The company originally wanted to take out the trees blocking residents' view but now they've agreed to trim them back.
"It's because the trees around the entrance are conifers, making the entrance look smaller than it is."
