Burglars forced open lock-ups at Cannock Cricket and Hockey Club, which gave star Kevin Pietersen his start in the English game, at the weekend.

Their haul included a tractor and trailer, sit-on rotary pitch cleaner, floodlight-lowering gear and a rotary mower.

Club bosses have been left shocked and distraught by the raid which was discovered on Sunday morning by an assistant groundsman.

Club chairman Graham Machin said: "This is a devastating blow for us. The loss of grounds equipment that is used every day, particularly the tractor, is going to be very hard for us over the next few months."
