-6C now forecast as freeze to go on
Plummeting temperatures led to icy conditions on the region's roads and pavements today – with forecasters warning there is more freezing weather to come.
Rain and snow turned to ice overnight as temperatures dropped to -2C (28F) and the Met Office has warned they could get as low as -6C (21F) tonight.
The difficult conditions caused problems on the roads during rush hour.
A car skidded on the ice crashing into the central reservation on the A41 Black Country New Road in Great Bridge at about 6.30am. No-one was injured but one lane of the West Bromwich bound carriageway was blocked.
Long queues were also reported on the A491 Stourbridge Road heading towards Hagley and the A34 around Junction 7 of the M6 for Great Barr.
Penn Fields School in Wolverhampton did reopen again this morning, though, after being forced to shut yesterday because of heating problems.
