Hundreds without telephone and internet after fire at Bloxwich BT cabinet
Around 100 people in Bloxwich are still without telephone and internet connections after vandals deliberately set fire to a BT street cabinet, it emerged today.
People living on the Turnberry Estate have had problems with their phone lines since the attack on New Year's Day.
BT said it had received reports of 350 faults in the area around Turnberry Road and said 250 had now been repaired. It is hoped the remaining 100 will be fixed by Monday.
Amy Walker, BT spokeswoman, said: "On New Year's Eve, vandals set fire to a street cabinet on Turnberry Road causing extensive damage and melting all the customer connections contained within.
"Engineers have renewed the cabinet and continue to reconnect customers back on to their lines one by one.
"Despite the time consuming nature of this work, good progress is being made and around 250 customers are now back in service.
"We are hopeful that a further 100 customers still without service will all be restored by January 14 although many will be back up and running before then."
The company appealed to anyone who saw anything to get in touch.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "It's been inconvenient but most people have mobile phones."
