Cannock cattery staff trying to call owners after fire tragedy
Desperate attempts are today being made to contact pet owners after a cattery in Staffordshire was destroyed by fire.
Fifteen cats died in the blaze at Pinetrees Cattery in Huntington, Cannock, yesterday. Four of those belonged to owner Lynn Durnall and her family.
Mrs Durnall said that while the staff have made several attempts to contact cat owners, there are still two people they have not managed to reach.
Her father Patrick Johnson, who lives at Pinetrees Farm, said: "We are hoping to be back up and running as soon as we can. We have a number of things to sort out first.
"We still have some pens available for our customers in the section of the cattery that was not destroyed. We'd like to thank all the kind people who have contacted us to see if they could help in some way."
Mr Johnson, who is a carpenter and built the cattery in Stafford Road 15 years ago, said the animal centre had not been full at the time of the blaze and described that as a blessing.
Thirty-five firefighters went to Pinetrees Cattery after the fire took hold. Fire investigators confirmed the blaze was caused by an electrical fault in one of the pens for the cats.
About 20 pet cats were in the main cattery building, which was well alight as firefighters arrived at the scene at about 5.40am.
Andy Durnall, aged 26, son of owner Ms Durnall, who also lives at the farm, said the family was still very upset. He said: "It has been a very stressful time for the family. The cattery is our pride and joy."
