Cannock surgery in complaints on parking
Inconsiderate parking by patients running late for appointments at a Cannock surgery is putting the safety of local residents in jeopardy, it was claimed today.
More than 40 people, including a county councillor and two district councillors, have objected to a planned extension at Chase Medical Practice in Coniston Way.
They claim street parking has already become a bigger problem following the arrival of a new doctor and will only get worse if the surgery is allowed to expand even further.
Planners are recommending approval of the application to change the use of a residential house opposite the medical practice. They say it will create parking spaces which will ease the pressure on street parking and a more comfortable environment for staff and patients.
But the plans, submitted to Cannock Chase District Council, have led to concerns that the proposed parking layout does not include enough spaces and will put pedestrians and passing motorists at risk.
A report before the planning committee alleges a "complete disregard for the safety of residents" among some patients, especially those late for appointments.
At the beginning of last year the practice merged with the Stafford Road GP surgery. The surgery closed in May and moved to the Chase Medical Practice, bringing a doctor, nurse and two reception staff.
Thirty-seven letters of protest were received from householders in Coniston Way and Ullswater Place. A further two objections have come from residents in Church Street..
In separate letters, district councillors Chris Anslow and Paul Snape say the area already has sufficient medical practices.
The issue will be debated by Cannock councillors on Wednesday January 9.
