Owner Brett Simms managed to rescue pet Skits, which disappeared into the 5ft wide by 6ft deep hole in the garden in Gough Street, Willenhall at 3am yesterday.

Neighbours have now been warned not to venture into their back gardens. The hole is due to be filled in today.

Landscape gardener Mr Simms, aged 25, said: "Skits was running across the garden and just disappeared."

He jumped into the hole to get the Staffordshire Bull Terrier out and then was lifted to safety himself by a neighbour.
