"Cynth", as she was known, worked at Asda Dudley from 1989 until she retired about seven years ago – and her face and voice were among the most familiar to regular shoppers at the Merry Hill shopping centre. Her distinctive Black Country tones echoing over the store's public address system and her friendly welcome at the entrance won her many fans.

She began by working in the restaurant at the store but regular nominations by customers and fellow staff led to her being appointed first a greeter – and then a "golden" version of the role.

Her husband of 42 years, Mick, aged 71, also worked at the store and daughter, Tracey, aged 39, still works there.

"Cynth", of Corbett Road, Brierley Hill, died on November 1 from a stroke.
