Ramandeep Kaur from Willenhall died after having a severe attack during a night out with friends in February. The nurse, who had two sisters including twin Amandeep, worked at City Hospital in Birmingham. She had suffered with the condition since birth.

Now her sister Karen is organising a charity dinner dance which will be held in Birmingham later this month. Karen Kaur and her family were devastated when they lost Ramandeep, known as Raj, after the asthma attack.

Raj, from Alcester Drive, had had asthma since she was born, along with her twin sister, Amandeep, and their mother. The former Stow Heath Junior School and Summer Hill School in Kingswinford pupil had severe asthma and suffered from attacks a couple of times a week but was usually able to get them under control by using inhalers and nebulisers when she needed to and attending asthma clinics.

Her death was a big shock for the family.

Sister Karen, aged 26, from West Bromwich, who has mild asthma, said: "It is difficult for us to accept her death because she had always managed to control her asthma and knew how to get it back to normal. She went on a night out with her friends and the ambulance didn't get there in time. This year has been hard for us as a family and we are trying to support each other. We are still trying to come to terms with what's happened. It was such a shock especially because she was so young."

The family now wants to raise money and awareness of Asthma UK and will be holding a dinner dance on November 24 at the Royale Suite Banqueting Palace in Birmingham.

The evening includes a three-course meal, entertainment, disco and an auction. Tickets cost £15 for adults, £10 for children and under fives go for free. It starts at 6.30pm and ends at 11.30pm. To buy tickets or for more information email karen.kaur@hotmail.com
