Proposals for the 150,000sq ft scheme, which would be created on the 200-space Beecroft Road car park site, were announced earlier this year.

And bosses from Cannock Chase District Council today said they were working to "pull together" all of the details of the development.

Council leader Councillor George Adamson said he expected detailed plans for the scheme to be drawn up early in 2013. He said they were looking at retailers who would be interested in setting up at the new development. "At the moment we are still pulling the scheme together," he said.

"The project is still in a very early stage so there is a lot of work still to be done.

"However I would expect plans to be drawn up after Christmas or early into the New Year now."

It is hoped the development will attract big name stores. The plans have however proved controversial, with some fearing that the loss of the car park site will have an impact on the town.
