Boy trapped by van airlifted to hospital

A four-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after becoming trapped under a van in Staffordshire.

The youngster's foot became trapped under the vehicle in Benion Road, Chadsmoor.

He was freed by members of the public.

A community first responder, two ambulances, an emergency doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire attended the incident at 6.15pm yesterday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said: "The child was examined and found to have scrapes and bruises, plus pain in his leg, neck and back. The driver was uninjured."

Neighbour Debbie Capewell, 31, said: "It was awful. My brother and some others helped pick the van up and rescue him."

Maxine Fernyhough, 43, dialled 999. She added: "We heard a bang. Then we saw the lad under the van.

"He was just screaming to his mum."
