A van driver was battered with a baseball bat during a suspected road rage attack. Police were called to the Willenhall Road, Wolverhampton, near to the Neachells Lane traffic lights, following reports of a man being attacked.

Eye witnesses described how the victim was repeatedly struck with the bat, suffering a suspected broken arm, before the attacker jumped back in his van and sped off. Police today called for anyone with information to contact them.

One man who witnessed yesterday's attack said he was shocked at what saw. "Two vans were in the middle lane heading towards Wolverhampton and we were on the inside lane. As I was approaching the lights and pulled up, the two drivers of the vans started arguing. One of the men got out and he was ranting and raving, saying the other man was laughing at him."

The witness said the man who was still in his van got out, shoved the other man and then got back in his van.

But it was then that the man who was shouting returned with a baseball bat. The man was taken to New Cross Hospital. Witnesses are asked to call 101 or Cri-mestoppers on 0800 555 111.
