An historic church in Cannock has ushered in the digital age by installing a new pipeless organ.

St Stephen's Church, in Bideford Way, has bought the new instrument after the demise of the outdated Binns Fitton and Haley pipe organ.

The new three manual organ has been custom-built for the church by Makin Organs in Lancashire with some 51 voices, which are the tones that it can play.

One of the finest organists in Britain has now been signed up to perform the opening recital – Professor Ian Tracey, Liverpool Cathedral and City Organist, will showcase the capabilities of the new organ by performing a varied programme on Wednesday, September 26 from 7.30pm.

Refreshments will be available from the church hall after the recital. Tickets cost £10 and are available from church stewards by post by writing to the church at 14 Gowlands Drive, Cannock, WS11 1TG. Please enclose a second class stamp.
