Row goes on for West Bromwich pair after wall replaced
A wall outside the home of an elderly West Bromwich couple that was knocked down by Sandwell Homes workers without warning has now been rebuilt. But relatives have warned they are still considering legal action.
A wall outside the home of an elderly West Bromwich couple that was knocked down by Sandwell Homes workers without warning has now been rebuilt. But relatives have warned they are still considering legal action.
Great great grandparents Edith and Eric Woodfield could not believe it when a worker knocked on their door to say he had pushed over the wall as it was deemed dangerous.
The couple were left with bricks all over their drive and has since said they have faced criticism from neighbours who think they are responsible for the mess. Now their daughter-in-law, Marilyn Woodfield, is getting advice from solicitors about seeking compensation on behalf of the couple.
Sandwell Homes workers have already admitted pushing down the wall because it was "deemed to be in a potentially dangerous condition". They said they were responding to concerned residents.
They returned to the Margaret Street property to repair the wall, which is about 5ft high, free of charge last week.
"It's obvious they realise they have done something wrong and that's why they're moving so quickly," added Mrs Woodfield.
Mr and Mrs Woodfield, aged 87 and 83 respectively, recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Sandwell Council has said no action is being taken against the workers.
