The body of a teenager who was stabbed to death in Smethwick following a birthday party will be repatriated to Zimbabwe, an inquest has heard.

Sixteen-year-old Ben Morutare died as a result of a stab wound in the left thigh, a hearing at Smethwick Coroner's Court heard today. He died at Birmingham Children's Hospital on July 28.

Coroner Robin Balmain said: "It is thought he had been at Smethwick Home Guard and Old Comrades Club at a party. There was an altercation and he was found nearby with a stab wound." Mr Balmain said the teenager, of Holden Crescent, Coalpool, Walsall, was born in Zimbabwe. The inquest was then adjourned indefinitely

Nobody has been charged with murder although six teenagers have been arrested in connection with the death. All are on bail pending further inquiries.

Det Insp Gary Plant urged anyone with information to come forward. Police are available on 101. Ben's devasted family described him as a "beloved son, brother and nephew". A statement said: "Ben was loved dearly by his family and many more who knew him."
