This weekend's Race for Life in Longbridge has been cancelled after heavy rain flooded Cofton Park, where the event was due to be held.

Event organisers and Birmingham City Council made the decision over health and safety concerns for the participants due to take part in the 5k event on Sunday, which raises funds for Cancer Research UK.

Tracey Duffy Race for Life Event Manager in Birmingham, said: "We are very sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience caused by the last-minute cancellation.

"The health and safety of our participants has to come first so we hope everyone understands why this difficult decision had to be made."

She added that all 1,300 participants of the Longridge Race for Life would be contacted by Cancer Research UK and organisers would do their best to reschedule the event.
